..politic issue..

Hope for girls in Jalalabad

This week Mr Fakhzan and us discussed about politic issue. Our ship and crew then sail to Jalalabad to get more information of discrimination of women there..

In Jalalabad, the literacy rate level is very low.For young women and girls, the discrimination in education are very high. Numerous girls are forced to marry as young as 14-years-old, and many are confronted with early pregnancy, sexual abuse and domestic violence. As opportunities for vocational training and employment are limited, many young people get disillusioned and take up dangerous jobs or drugs.

Because of the tradition, many young women and girls keep facing this political issue yearly. But the young women and girls know how to depend themselves even just several of them realise this political issue.

Afghan youngsters grow up in an especially complex environment, confronted every day with conflicting values. Violence and death have become an integral part of the Afghan society – but there is still hope for possibilities of a better future.

The YICC were inspired by the Afghan non-governmental organization Social Volunteer Foundation which is part of the Child Protection Action Networks (CPAN), set-up by the Government of Afghanistan to protect children in the war-torn communities of Afghanistan. Today, 27 CPAN exist all across Afghanistan, connecting governmental and non-governmental organizations, to protect and promote children’s rights in the country.

When the center opened its doors in 2007, girls were forbidden by their families from attending group discussion sessions. To increase parental confidence in the centres’ reliability, non-government society and its partners recruited female animators and provided car transportation from the girls’ homes to the YICC, circumventing the problem that women usually face when travelling alone.

Today, several hundred girls attend trainings and discussions, but all the challenges have not been overcome.

My whole family is literate, but my parents engaged me to an illiterate man,” said Nilab. "Every time I want to come here I have to beg like a child for him to accompany me. I am not interested in marriage, but want to publish my book of poems. I need to be in contact with other people but they won’t let me leave the house. Only because my aunt is accompanying me can I be here today.”

Every Tuesday, Nilab and a dozen other girls meet in Jalalabad’s YICC to discuss the problems they are facing and issues concerning them.

The girls have woken up. Discussions like the ones that we now have every week about marriage, relationships, and professional perspectives would not have been possible two years ago.

Communication - Action Speaks Louder Than Words

Ahoy dear passengers! We sailors have to travel to every parts of the world, meeting new people and understanding them. One of the most important skill is communication skills. Communication is a process where information or ideas are exchange either verbally or non-verbally. According to reseach works, 55% of impact in face to face communiction is determined by body language, 38% by the tone of voice and 7% by the content or words used. This proves that non-verbal communication contributes the most in our everyday communication.

Non-verbal communication are messages convey through gestures, body language, posture, facial expressions, eye contact, and even the clothes or hairtsyle you have! All of those creates an impact to your listener. Not only that, the voice quality, emotion and speaking style with the different rhythm, intonation and stress also affects your listener. In this chapter of our journey, we will focus on body language especially on how to interpret other people's body language in order for us to give a positive response.

Body language happens unconsciously, therefore it is difficult to lie or cover up our feelings through body language. Alike the proverb or old saying
"Action Speaks Louder than Words"
This is why, counselors, psychologist and psychiatrists is able to understand the problem of his client by observing and interpreting the body language of their client. The army and police force also use body language interpretation techniques for crime investigation. The investigative officers will look for telltale signs in the suspect's body lnaguage.
So what meaning does each of our gestures potray? Let's start with our body postures. When a person walks with and open chest and tilted head, it potrays confidence. We often see this gesture in police officers, manager, bosses whom are confident of themselves and the place they are in. Secondly, a person that stands with hands on hips potrays readiness, aggressiveness or superiority. Notice this gesture when a parent scolds their children. Next, we look at the lower body gestures. A person that sits with his legs apart potrays openess and relax attitude. This person is easy to approach. However, if someone that he dislikes approach him, he might redraw his legs into an ankle lock position and starts to cross his arms on his chest. This potrays defensiveness to the person he feels uncomfortable with. If an individual has interest or attentiveness to another individual, he's knees or feet will direct towards the point of interest. For example, if you're talking to a person that is rushing to go out of a room, you will notice his feet or body pointed towards the door. Look at guy in the picture below, what do you think the guy is feeling?
The guy with hunched shoulder and walking with head down potrays lack of self confidence, dejection or tiredness. Lowering the head is a sign of loss, defeat or shame. Head down tends to cause shoulders and upper back to slump, increasing the signs of weakness at the moment. Perhaps the guy just ended a relationship or failed to achieve something.

Where we place our hands unconsiously also shows what is going on. For example, when someone place their hands on their cheek. This often happens if they are evaluating or thinking of something. Stroking their chin often means they are in the midst of making a decision. Then if they close their eyes while pinching their nose, a negative evaluation is going on. Resting their head on their hands with downcast eyes, it might probably mean they are feeling bored. But when they suddenly tilt their head fast, it p0trays interest.

When someone were to touch or rub their nose slightly after saying something, it most probably means that what they said before was a lie. Different age groups shows potrays different body language. Children will tend to cover their mouth with both hands after a lie, while a teenager will cover their lie by a more vague gesture such as touching the sides of thier lips or rubbing their nose. To know if someone is honest, an open palm gesture is what we should observe. An open palm potrays sincerity, openess, or innocence. Observe advertisments by service oriented companies such as banksor airlines, they have open palms gestures to show readiness to provide service and assistance.

Other than those body language mentioned, do you ever noticed yourself or others tapping their fingers on the table or shaking their legs when waiting for food in a restaurant? Those actions potrays impatience. Some other gestures in a restaurant includes clasping hands behind their back. This means that person is feeling frustrated and trying to gain self control of themselves. An individual biting nails, fondling with hair potrays lack of self confidence, insecurity and nervousness.
Below is a video on how to appear relax and confident to others by using our body language : -

Body language happens everyday and surround us all. It is vital for us to be alert of other people's body language and the body language we potray to others. As the old saying "Action Speaks Louder than Words" can not be denied. In a nut shell, understanding body language will help us in our daily communication and improve our interpersonal skills. We hope you got some tips from today's post!

Catch ya another time!

cyberpunk

This week mr.fakhzan had given us a task about subculture..so,the crews have decided to sail to the cyberpunk subculture topic.. Many not really know bout this subculture even us,the crew..
Have a great sailing with us AND ENJOY YOUR DAY..
Introduction

Cyberpunk (a portmanteau of cybernetics and punk) is a genre of science fiction that focuses on computers or information technology, usually coupled with some degree of breakdown in social order. The plot of cyberpunk literature often revolves around the conflict between hackers, artificial intelligences, and mega corporations, tending to be set within a near-future dystopian Earth, rather than the "outer space" locales prevalent at the time of cyberpunk's inception. Much of the genre's "atmosphere" echoes film noir, and written works in the genre often use techniques from detective fiction. While this gritty, hard-bitten style was hailed as revolutionary during cyberpunk's early days, later observers concluded that, literarily speaking, most cyberpunk narrative techniques were less innovative than those of the New Wave, twenty years earlier. Primary exponents of the cyberpunk field include William Gibson, Bruce Sterling, John Shirley and Rudy Rucker. The term became widespread in the 1980s and remains current today.

During the early- and mid-1980s, cyberpunk became a fashionable topic in academic circles, where it began to be the subject of postmodernist investigation. During the same period, the genre penetrated Hollywood and helped propel cyberpunk as one of staples of science-fiction. Many popular, high-grossing films such as Blade Runner and the Matrix trilogy can be seen as prominent developments of the genre's visual styles and themes. Computer games, board games and role playing games often feature storylines that are heavily influenced by cyberpunk literature and film. Beginning in the early 1990s, trends in fashion and music picked up the cyberpunk name.

As a wider variety of writers began to work with cyberpunk concepts, new sub-genres emerged such as steampunk, biopunk and cyberprep, each of which focuses on technology and its societal effects in a different way. In addition, some have argued that several recent works like Neal Stephenson's Snow Crash define a postcyberpunk category, though whether this category is distinct may only be a matter of definition.

cyberpunk musics

The term "cyberpunk music" can refer to two rather overlapping categories. First, it may denote the varied range of musical works which cyberpunk films use as soundtrack material. These works occur in genres from classical music and jazz—used, in Blade Runner and elsewhere, to evoke a film noir ambiance—to "noize" and electronica. Typically, films draw upon electronica, electronic body music, industrial, noise, futurepop, alternative rock, goth rock, and intelligent dance music to create the proper "feel". Of course, while written works may not come with associated soundtracks as frequently as movies do, allusions to musical works are used for the same effect. For example, the graphic novel Kling Klang Klatch (1992), a dark fantasy about a world of living toys, features a hard-bitten teddy bear detective with a sugar habit and a predilection for jazz.Certain music genres like drum'n'bass were directly influenced by cyberpunk, even generating a whole subgenre called neurofunk, where the bass lines, synths and beats try to give the listener the sensation of being inside a sprawl or crawling through cyberspace. Neurofunk was pioneered by artists like Ed Rush, Trace and Optical.

cyberpunk style

Cyberpunk writers tend to use elements from the hard-boiled detective novel, film noir, and postmodernist prose to describe the often nihilistic underground side of the digital society which started to evolve in the last two decades of the twentieth century. Cyberpunk's dystopian world has been called the antithesis of much of the mid-twentieth century's generally utopian visions of the future. Cyberpunk author Bruce Sterling summarized the cyberpunk ethos in the following way:
Anything that can be done to a rat can be done to a human being. We can do just about anything you can imagine to rats. And closing your eyes and refusing to think about this won't make it go away.

The Poverty Rate In Malaysia
